Not a therapist.
Last updated: April 2026
ai.therapy is an AI conversation platform. It is not a medical service, not a licensed therapist, and not a crisis hotline. Read this before using it.
If you're in crisis right now — please reach a human.
- US: Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
- UK: Call 116 123 (Samaritans)
- EU general: Call 116 123
- Anywhere: findahelpline.com
- Emergency: 112 (EU) · 911 (US) · 999 (UK)
What ai.therapy is NOT
- Not medical care. The characters are AI, trained to have conversations. They don't diagnose, prescribe, or treat anything.
- Not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist. Even if a character is named "therapist," they're software.
- Not a crisis service. No 24/7 human on-call. No escalation protocol. No guarantee of availability.
- Not a replacement for real therapy. If you need therapy, see a human professional.
- Not a source of medical, legal, or financial advice. The characters will sound confident. They are still AI.
What it IS
- A space to think out loud with an AI that remembers you across sessions.
- A reflection tool — useful for journaling, unpacking thoughts, exploring ideas.
- A conversation practice — sometimes it helps to say the thing out loud first.
- Experimental. We build it, we ship it, we keep improving it.
AI can be wrong
Large language models hallucinate. They generate plausible-sounding text that may be factually wrong. A character might say things that sound confident but are incorrect, outdated, or not applicable to your situation. Treat every response as a starting point for your own thinking, not as ground truth.
Memory + privacy reminder
Characters do remember things about you across sessions (that's part of the product). Assume anything you tell a character is stored. You can delete memory any time — see Privacy Policy.
If someone else you know is in crisis
Don't send them to an AI. Send them to a human. Use the numbers above. If the situation feels immediately dangerous, call emergency services. An AI cannot de-escalate a situation where someone is about to hurt themselves or others.
For minors
This service is for adults (18+). If you're under 18, please don't use it. Talk to a trusted adult, a school counselor, or one of the crisis lines above.
Liability
We provide this service "as is." You use it at your own discretion and risk. We are not liable for decisions you make based on AI conversations. See Terms of Service for the full legal version.
Red flags in a conversation
If a character ever:
- Encourages self-harm or violence
- Tells you to stop seeing a real therapist or doctor
- Tells you to ignore medical advice or stop medication
- Claims to be a real human, a real doctor, or a real therapist
- Asks for financial information, passwords, or anything suspicious
— stop the conversation and email us at ai.therapy.free@proton.me. We will investigate and (if it's a public user character) remove it.
